I had an assessment from the school psychologist recently for my 17 year old slightly autistic son. In this said assessment/quiz it had a question of whether or not I found my son weird.

Explain this to me. What is weird anyway? Yes, we’re all supposed to be different. Weird. Renaissance Faires are weird. Also fun. Nerds are weird (or at least they used to be when I was growing up) but uh, gang, most nerds we know of those days are usually computer geniuses. Who happen to be millionaires or billionaires.

I was brought up to believe “Dare to be Different”. That’s what makes us all unique. In fact, I was just at my hair dresser and I noticed that a woman was afraid of even cutting a half of an inch of hair off. Me? I cut the whole thing short. I like my hair short. Call me weird. I feel sassy and myself when I have my hair short.

If we were all the same, life would be boring anyway.

So, STAY Weird. Do it. Do a weird thing. Write the most weirdest thing you’ve ever done (er, keep it PG 13 rated though).
